Chapter: 722
"Then don't disrupt her life."

Jonathan sensed it would be difficult for Nikolas to commit to any relationship, given his love for freedom. Not only marriage, but even a stable relationship seemed unlikely.

"Alas! Do you really think it's impossible for her and me?" Nikolas asked.

"It comes down to what you believe. Everyone else's opinions are just opinions."

Nikolas sighed and said, “Alright, but I need to head back home. The workload at Bates Group is overwhelming, and Brody is nearly burnt out."

“I've started taking over some of the tasks. When I return, I'll make sure he gets a long vacation to recover."

“Okay." Nikolas nodded and stood up. “It's getting late. I should get going. Enjoy your time with Bethany."

Jonathan remained silent.

"I'll check with Aimee to see if she's heading back too. I can give her a ride."

Jonathan was at a loss for words.

Their conversation had circled back to the beginning.

Outside, Bethany and Aimee had found a bench and were gazing at the starry sky in silence.

It was unusual for Aimee to be quiet. After a few moments, she finally asked, “Have you changed your mind?"

Bethany knew what she meant. "No."

"Alas!" Aimee sighed deeply and sat up straighter. “I was so determined before to help you uncover the truth. I believe your mother's death deserves that, and those responsible should be held accountable. But seeing what Jonathan has done, I think pursuing this might be too harsh."

Their relationship could shift from close companions to adversaries in an instant.

Who could cope with that?

“Aimee, as of now, Jonathan's mother has shown no remorse. She might even feel satisfied that she managed to destroy the evidence!"

When Bethany faced Francine, she only saw disgust and disdain, no sign of guilt whatsoever.

How could Bethany bring herself to forgive and forget?

How could a murderer stand so boldly before the family of her victim?

It seemed Francine never blamed herself, as if ending Marie's life was as trivial to her as if she'd merely killed a small animal.

"Jonathan's mother is truly hateful!" Aimee agreed, understanding Bethany's situation. "But she's sick and often rushed to intensive care. She's likely dying, isn't she? Perhaps she'll die before the law can even touch her!"

So maybe Bethany could afford to wait a bit longer...
