Chapter: 83
The subject from Jayson was unexpected. Bethany had assumed their meeting was solely about the project.
Seeing Bethany's confused look, Jayson grinned. "Did I catch you off guard?"
“Yeah, a bit." Bethany's smile was forced, as she was unprepared for this.
Jayson was the first to break the awkward silence, saying, "I'm sorry. That was a bit sudden! I did come here to discuss the project, but the way the light hit you was so striking, I just threw in a joke."
He then slid a folder toward Bethany. "Here, take a look. These are the design blueprints and several national patent certificates."
Bethany opened the folder and browsed through it. The presentation was detailed and well-prepared.
Some patents were held jointly with others, while others were solely in Jayson's name.
“About collaborating on this project, I'll need to take these plans and discuss them with my superiors. If we scale this up, it could qualify for national support."
Innovation was always a key focus in the industry.
"This trip was quite sudden. Once I'm back in Odonset, we'll have a concept car ready in our lab, and I would love for you to come and test it," Jayson said warmly, his tone inviting. "I'm leading this project, so I'll await your decision. If it doesn't pan out after your team's review, I'll approach other companies."
“That means I should hurry up!" Bethany's smile finally became genuine. Jayson's earnestness was clear.
In tech projects like this, during funding phases, multiple investment firms were often pitched at once, with the best offer prevailing. Jayson's remarks today certainly placed the decision in Bethany's hands.
Although Bethany was confident that Ensson Corporation would approve the project, she remained prudent and withheld any immediate commitments.
“There's a lot of interest in your first financing round, right?"
Jayson paused, then nodded shyly. "Yes. Several have reached out, but Aimee insisted I prioritize Ensson Corporation."
"If we go forward, I'll mention Aimee's contribution to our leaders."
"You two must be quite close, huh?" Jayson smiled. "Aimee's really dynamic. Initially, I wasn't sure your friendship would last, but it turns out, you two get along well."
Thinking of Aimee, Bethany's lips curled into a small smile. "Aimee has always been so kind to me."
Throughout her life, genuine concern had been rare, but Aimee's warmth had been the most constant and pure as she had stood by her side for many years.
“Every time we hang out, Aimee just can't stop talking about you. Honestly, if you were a guy, I might suspect she had a crush on you."
Jayson and Bethany swapped amusing tales from Aimee's childhood, and the atmosphere relaxed, shedding the earlier stiffness.
Their conversation continued until Brody's call signaled that it was time for Jayson and Bethany to wrap up.
Afterward, Bethany hailed a taxi to the industrial and commercial department in Brokdon. During the ride, she got a call from Maddie.
"Do you have the core technical drawings for the Zucron Company project?"
