Chapter: 844
"I dropped you a message earlier today but got no response. I figured I'd try calling, though I didn't really expect you to pick up," he explained with a hint of accusation in his tone, implying that Aimee hadn't responded on purpose.
Aimee hurriedly clarified, "I didn't ignore your message. My phone was broken, and I just got a new one."
"That makes sense," Zeke replied, visibly more at ease. "What happened to your phone?"
"Um... I broke it by accident."
Zeke appeared uncomfortable, uncertain of how to continue the conversation.
Aimee asked, "What have you been up to?"
“I've been wrapping up some paperwork. Now I'm just waiting to hear back from you."
With that, Zeke gave a shy smile.
His response made Aimee feel amused. "What would you have done if I hadn't picked up? Would you just keep waiting?"
"Yes. I've finished all my work for today, so I'm free."
"Are you hungry?" Aimee asked while playing with the phone's box.
"What?" Zeke's response came with a hint of surprise.
"I'm starving. How about we grab a bite?"
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone.
Just as Aimee was about to speak, she heard a noise like something falling over.
“Wait, let me clean this up!" Zeke exclaimed.
Aimee was left without words.
A short time later, Zeke came back, sounding slightly breathless.
“What would you Like to eat? I'll drive over to pick you up!"
Aimee gave a wry smile. "I thought you didn't want to treat me."
“No, not at all! I just... I didn't expect you to ask first..."
Actually, he had been thinking about asking her out several times but always hesitated.
If Aimee hadn't brought it up, he might have waited even longer.
"Zeke, you better be ready! I'm not very pretty." They hadn't seen each other in person since their first blind date was disrupted by Nikolas. Although they had each other's numbers, they hadn't discussed meeting up until today.
