Chapter: 860
“It's not exactly Like that, we..." Aimee began to clarify.
But Gilda interrupted, “The condition you set, to transfer his assets to your name and leave him with nothing if he messes up, his father and I completely support it. It's good to keep him on a tight Leash like this. We've wanted to discipline him for a while but never had anything that truly posed a threat to him. Now that you're here, we feel relieved."
Gilda could see that her son was genuinely interested in Aimee.
As his mother, she knew all too well about his penchant for parties and drinking sessions with his friends. Even though she was aware, she felt powerless to rein him in. He always dismissed her concerns, claiming it was all just for business.
Now that someone might capture his heart and inspire him to settle down, Gilda couldn't be more pleased.
“Go freshen up, then we should head to the bank quickly. I've arranged a meeting with the manager there."
At this, Aimee quickly waved her hand in response.
She hesitated for a moment, searching for gentler words, but found none, so she decided to be frank.
"Mrs. Bennett, I'm not in a relationship with Nikolas."
Although she acknowledged everything Gilda had mentioned and recognized the sincerity of his parents, she couldn't contemplate marrying Nikolas just because of that.
It would be absurd.
"What?" Gilda was visibly shocked, not expecting such a revelation.
Kai also looked surprised and sat up to focus on her.
Aimee felt somewhat awkward.
She couldn't disclose that she had been intimate with Nikolas merely to have a one-night stand, without any intention of committing to anything.
It was truly unforeseen for things to have unfolded this way.
“I came to Wesden to visit my friend, but since she was busy, she asked Nikolas to look after me. That's the extent of our connection."
There was nothing romantic between them.
"But Nikolas claimed you two were an item, and that you initiated it. No, that's not what I meant. I just thought you had feelings for him too."
"Mrs. Bennett, I only regard him as a friend. Perhaps Nikolas misunderstood."
Gilda looked toward her husband, puzzled.
After a brief silence, Kai said in a serious tone, "Call that rascal and find out what's really going on."
"When Nikolas left, he mentioned that Jonathan had asked him to attend the meeting in his stead. He's probably in the conference room right now. Just a moment, I'll give him a call and check."
Aimee realized she needed to leave before Nikolas returned. If he came back, she might not be able to leave at all.
