Chapter: 879
"No way! I'm your boyfriend now. Shouldn't I be allowed some closeness?" Nikolas leaned in, his breath warm against her ear.
“Disappointed not to find any roses in the back?"
Aimee was silent for a moment, her cheeks burning with embarrassment.
Nikolas laughed, then handed her car keys from his pocket. "I won't resort to Zeke's old tricks of sending flowers. I'm giving you a car instead!"
Aimee looked down at the logo. “You're giving me Maserati she asked, astounded."
"Yes, it's a limited edition. Actually, I bought two-one for each of us, and they're a matching set," Nikolas said proudly. “Whenever you drive it, everyone in Odonset will know you're my woman."
The cars were limited edition, with only two in existence.
Aimee, overwhelmed, pushed the key back towards him. "I don't want it."
“Why not?"
“Nikolas, this is too much pressure." Aimee admitted, feeling more like a kept woman than a girlfriend.
Who gifted a limited edition sports car on a first date?
"It's no pressure at all!" Nikolas protested, his expression one of innocence. "If you agree, all my assets are yours. Giving you a car now makes no difference!"
"I really don't want it," Aimee insisted.
Her initial mention of his assets was meant to test his sincerity and perhaps dissuade him.
She hadn't anticipated his seriousness, even involving his parents.
The excitement and anticipation that had brightened Nikolas' face dimmed at her reaction.
“Have you changed your mind?" he asked.
"No, I just want to take things step by step. Let's not rush into marriage. I... I'm not ready yet."
Frowning, Nikolas pressed the car keys back into her hand.
"You have to accept my gift. You accepted roses from Zeke. Why not accept something from me?"
"What's the cost of roses compared to a sports car?"
How could they be compared?
"But I'm much richer than Zeke!"
It just wasn't the same.
