Chapter: 924
Jonathan once thought writing that love letter was the most foolish and embarrassing act he'd ever committed.
But now, he felt fortunate that Bethany never read it.
Back then, he was too immature. How could he be as thoughtful as he was now? Even if she had agreed to date him, their relationship might not have survived her stressful circumstances.
It was better that they matured separately, giving him a better chance later on.
"Jonathan, was I the only one you ever had a crush on?"
After a brief pause, Bethany asked the question.
She felt it might be a bit narrow-minded to ask this question. She worried that Jonathan might not be pleased to answer, but she needed to know.
After all, they had been out of touch for many years.
"I had you, and that was enough. I don't dwell on what-ifs."
"Okay. What if I had a boyfriend over the past few years? Or what if I were married? You couldn't have been waiting for me!"
Jonathan gently patted her on the forehead.
"You're the only one who thinks we completely broke up during these years."
“What ?"
"I've been in our class group chat all this time. I didn't leave the group until the night you quit after sending that mistaken message."
Bethany paused to think and realized it was true. When she rejoined the chat, he was no longer there.
“And, do you remember when you got hired at Ensson Corporation?"
“I submitted my resume Like everyone else, went through the interview process, and waited for HR's notification.”
“Bethany, you were the only one hired at that time.”
She was stunned, her mouth hanging open.
Jonathan sighed. "Haven't you ever wondered? Why would a company organize a recruitment drive and end up hiring just one assistant? Weren't you surprised that no one else was hired alongside you? Bethany shook her head. I'm not great at interacting with others, so I never asked."
"If I had known sooner, I would have brought you into the head office."
Perhaps they could have reunited sooner if he had.
At the time, he was concerned that Bethany might be suspicious, so he had Ensson Corporation conduct the recruitment instead of the head office.
He was worried that Bethany might not believe she could genuinely be recruited by Bates Group.
