Chapter: 940
She took his turning as tacit approval to seek out Samira, so she rose from the bed and headed out.
Behind her, Jonathan's voice came low and strained.
“My father wants me to marry her."
"Who?" Bethany asked instinctively.
“Who else could it be?" he asked.
Bethany remembered snippets of conversation she'd overheard from Godfrey; she wasn't entirely surprised.
Pressing her lips together, she began to grasp why Jonathan was resistant to having Samira come. "Okay."
Suddenly, Jonathan turned back and sat up, his expression urgent.
“Just okay?"
Seeing a hint of irritation in Jonathan's eyes, Bethany realized her response might have seemed flat.
She smiled and said, "But you never listen to your father anyway."
Jonathan reclined on the bed, lifted his hand, and massaged his forehead. "I'm always the one who gets jealous."
“What are you suggesting? Should I run over to Samira, crying and threatening to do something drastic?"
Jonathan remained silent.
He just wanted her to make her stance clear.
But clearly, Bethany was only focused on his injury.
“Forget it." Jonathan settled back on the bed. "I'll ask them to switch the doctor."
Since he suggested it, Bethany wasn't foolish enough to insist on keeping Samira around and risk upsetting him.
“Okay, just as long as you can get your fever down."
Jonathan looked at her and frowned. “Bethany, aren't you worried I might fall for someone else?"
She was taken aback.
Truthfully, she hadn't considered it.
Her main concern was not to let Jonathan waste his life on her.
After her departure, she hoped he would find someone who truly loved him and would commit to him forever.
