Chapter: 942
Bethany gave a wry smile.
Even now, that was his concern!
"Okay, I won't leave. How could I leave you like this?"
Leaving Jonathan alone with a high fever was something Bethany simply couldn't do.
Relieved by her assurance, Jonathan finally closed his eyes. His mind was cloudy again, but he still clung to her, not ready to let go for a long while.
Bethany understood that he was living in constant anxiety.
She hadn't given him a specific departure date, nor had she convinced that she would not leave him again.
Thankfully, only a few days remained until this ordeal would be over.
Jonathan's condition didn't improve until the fifth day after their return to Wesden.
Samira explained that he was overly stressed and that his old injuries hadn't fully healed.
“But he always seemed fine in Gregger," Bethany said.
“People can keep going through sheer willpower when they're tense. Maybe being back in Wesden means he doesn't feel the need to keep pushing himself. That's when the illness catches up," Samira explained.
This made Bethany realize how deeply Jonathan was affected by Jayson's presence.
It was clearly a significant stressor for him.
Reflecting on it, she recalled signs of his concern.
In Gregger, whenever she took a phone call, she would find him leaning against a wall, smoking. In the evenings, if she went out, he'd wait in the living room. And when she visited the cemetery, he'd secretly follow her.
Jonathan truly feared losing her.
After all, the four years without Bethany had been incredibly difficult for him.
Feeling somewhat better, Jonathan found his schedule packed with work and meetings again.
Bethany admired his ambition, so she never felt that his work took him away from her. Instead, she found him most appealing during these times.
She would often secretly take photos and tuck them away in her album.
It was dark outside by the time the meeting ended.
She curled up on the sofa and fell asleep.
She didn't fully awaken until she felt someone Lifting her.
