Chapter: 946
After ending her call with Aimee, Bethany turned to Jonathan. "What have you been up to?"
"Just picking up some cinnamon rolls for you." He pulled out a paper bag from his coat like a magician and handed it over to her. "These are a specialty from Wesden. Give them a try."
Bethany accepted the bag, surprised. "What's so unique about these that you had to go get them yourself?"
Jonathan grinned, admiring a mark he had left on her neck, visibly proud. He tilted her head up and kissed her once more.
“I was worried that if I stayed here, I'd be too tempted by you."
Bethany rolled her eyes.
“Eat up. I also brought Wesdenish meatballs and pancakes."
He clearly was struggling with his restraint. He had driven around Wesden for a long while, hesitant to come back to the hospital room.
Bethany felt hungry.
She sampled everything, finally deciding the pancakes were the highlight. The meatballs tasted odd-bearable, but not particularly delightful. The cinnamon rolls, while a classic local treat, didn't appeal to her due to her dislike for cinnamon.
Jonathan observed her eating, the sight of her cheeks puffing up occasionally made him want to squeeze them.
“What are you doing?" she asked.
“I just couldn't resist."
Jonathan's smile vanished as he reclined on the couch, stretching his long legs.
He looked unsure, but after a moment, he asked, “Bethany, what's your plan for dealing with Maddie?"
At the mention of that name, Bethany stopped eating and shook her head. "I haven't decided yet. We'll see what happens in court."
"You don't have to wait for that. Just tell me what you want to do! Whether it's making her suffer or ending it quickly, I'll take care of it."
Jonathan thought Bethany wanted immediate retribution, so he asked his father for Maddie, allowing Bethany to express her fury in any way she chose.
However, Bethany remained surprisingly quiet.
After some time, she raised her head to meet Jonathan's eyes.
“Just because you have power doesn't mean you can determine someone's fate against the law."
"So, what do you want? Just tell me."
"I'm looking for a fair and just trial. Gather the evidence and present it to the court. Let the legal system determine the punishment for the people who killed my mother."
If her sole desire had been Maddie's death, she wouldn't have waited for all those years.
